RVR Consultants provides a full range of architectural and structural engineering design services for buildings and development sites, work across all sectors and providing these services to private and commercial clients as well as governmental agencies.
In addition to these core services the practice has developed particular expertise in a number of more specialized fields, enabling the services we offer now to include interior design, building repairs, heritage engineering, construction project management and a broad range of pre-planning advice.
ARCHITECTURE
With experience in nearly all project types and experience in completing projects for private and commercial clients as well as governmental agencies, our architectural team combines outstanding design skills with superior project management capabilities to shape communities and organizations. At RVR Consultants, we offer facilities for consulting, architectural design, sustainable design, specifications, construction administration, and post-occupancy evaluations. Our architectural team provides clients with the expertise to design a new home, building, factory or development which is unique and which is designed to accommodate the client’s needs.
We provide our clients with all standard services as published by the SA Council for the Architectural Profession in terms of Section 34(2) of the Architectural Profession Act (Act 44 of 2000).
It all starts with an idea, and we will prepare your Concept in 3D (three dimensional drawing), at approval compile council submission plans, complete all required energy efficiency calculations, fenestration calculations, complete all required council documentation and walk the plans through council.
INTERIOR DESIGN
From the initial client meeting through occupancy, our specialists in programming, space planning and interior design work with our clients identify their design goals, schedule requirements and budgetary parameters. Ultimately, we develop a design that is sensitive to the individual considerations of the project and reflects and advances our clients’ missions.

We will prepare sketch plans for the space, get all necessary quotations and provide the client with a presentation of ideas for the specific space.
STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING
Structural Engineering for buildings has been at the core of the practice’s work since our inception. RVR Consultants provides a complete range of structural engineering services for every type of building in all sectors ranging from refurbishment of private houses to large new build multi storey, mixed use developments, reports on specific structural issues to the design. At RVR Consultants, we pride ourselves in finding innovative, cost-effective, and sustainable solutions to structural engineering problems.
Our innovative structural engineering team strives to overcome the physical limitations of sites while also meeting the requirements of each project. The team works with our in-house architects, as well as with clients directly; to develop solutions to the full range of structural needs, in many cases creating new opportunities for the architect and project owner.
Our structural engineering services include but are not limited to the following:
· Design and detailing of reinforced concrete, structural steel and timber elements for residential, industrial, commercial and mixed use developments;
· Structural Integrity Assessments, Inspections and Reports;
· Concrete Schmidt Hammer Testing;
· Geotechnical investigations such as DCP Tests, Compaction Tests, etc;
· A19 Engineering Appointment Forms and Completion Certification;
· NHBRC Documentation including B1, D1, EF003 and Late Enrolment documentation;
· All services indicated under Normal Services, by the Engineering Council of South Africa, Government Gazette No. 32851, 04 January 2010;
· Any additional services such as stipulated in clause 3.3, Additional Services, by the Engineering Council of South Africa, Government Gazette No. 32851, 04 January 2010.
PROJECT MANAGEMENT
We help clients to get the most from their construction and engineering projects. We have been successfully managing projects from conception to completion since our company’s inception. We deliver project management, cost management and construction consulting advice.
Our powerful combination of lateral thinking, from the best brains in the industry and our experience in construction project management guide us in giving clients the insight they are looking for. This is founded on three core values – being professional, collaborative and positive at all times.
RVR Consultants has worked with clients and designers on projects including: residential developments, alterations and extensions to single and double storey dwellings, fire stations, factories, pavilions, etc.
Although the scale and scope of each project is different, some objectives remain constant: completely understand the needs and values of the project and deliver the best product for the best price in the allotted time.
REPAIR
The selection, specification and management of appropriate repairs to a structure are defined through consideration of the aims and economics of the project, an understanding of the original fabric and the techniques available for this reinstatement.
Repair contracts administered by RVR Consultants are invariably preceded by a structural appraisal, to determine the extent of the work necessary and to explore alternative strategies within a given budget. Our work in this field includes the underpinning of subsiding foundations, corrosion control, concrete repairs and masonry repairs. On occasion we advise on severe structural damage from accidental causes, such as fire, explosion and vehicle impact.
RVR Consultants have been involved in many repair projects for private clients and governmental agencies such as the ‘Cape Town City Hall Auditorium’ repair project where we were required to inspect and report on the condition of the Cape Town City Hall’s roof as well as to provide input on the removal and the replacement of the existing damaged ceiling roses.
We were appointed on the ‘Long Market Street Old Granary’ repair and restoration project. The building was classified as a heritage site and the structure needed to be made structurally safe before it could be occupied. The walls of the buildings had cracks due to settlement of the foundations and this affected the integrity of the walls and the roof. We had to work closely with the heritage specialist and the architect before we could issue specifications for remedial work.
